Next weekend, Dyson Racing will return to the Superflo 12 Hours at Sebring in an attempt to win the classic endurance race. The team had a heartbreaking weekend at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in February, leading the race throughout the cold, rainy night until the leading #16 car blew an engine. They are determined not to let the same thing happen at Sebring.
"We've yet to win," says Chris Dyson, Media Spokesman for Dyson Racing, about the 12 Hours at Sebring. "We've finished on the podium there and come close to winning, but we've never won."
The team is entering the #16 car in the race, which is to be driven by the talented lineup of James Weaver, Butch Leitzinger and Eliott Forbes-Robinson. The team will face strong competition from the factory Audi and Panoz cars, but they will be a strong challenger among the privateer prototype entries.
The car for Sebring is the team's new Riley & Scott MkIII C chassis. Dyson Racing won the Nextel 250 at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the old car just a week ago, but the new R & S promises to be better. With minimal testing time logged on the new car, the R & S will make its competitive debut at Sebring.
Dyson Racing took delivery of the car last Sunday while they were at the Homestead race. A systems check was performed on Monday night, and testing began on Tuesday afternoon. "So far I think everything is pretty encouraging," says Dyson. "It's a new car and of course there will be a couple bugs now and then, but it's similar to the package we've been running, only with improvements. It should be a step forward when all is said and done."
