There were 30 plus Group C and IMSA cars in this years Historic race before the 24 hrs. They had practiced on Thursday on a track that started wet and only dried in the closing minutes of the session by which time several cars had parked for the day or had troubles. This meant a grid which would see some hard chargers coming through the pack.

With 20 year old cars attrition was always going to be a factor and there were also some excursions into gravel or barriers that depleted the field. Gary Pearson in the Jaguar XJR 11 had been fastest in practice and he eased away from Charlie Agg in the Nissan R90CK eventually setting fastest race lap of 3.52.433 a time that would have been good enough for 17th on the modern grid. Sadly the Jaguar failed to complete the distance and Agg won in the Nissan.

The next two places featured a huge Battle between Nigel James in the Joest Porsche 962 and a 20 year old Simon Pullan who brought the Porsche 962 CH8 from down the field to only just fail to claim second.

Ray Mallock was reunited with the lovely Aston Martin Nimrod and David Leslie with the Swiftair Ecosse Ford, the cars they drove many years ago. Throughout the field there were some entertaining battles and I hope the pictures give just a small flavour of the event.
