Michele Alboreto is a two-time winner at the famed Nurburgring circuit, both in Formula One and the FIA Sports Car World Championship series. Alboreto scored his World Championship F-1 victory in 1985 driving for Ferrari. In 1984, he set the fast lap of the race, again for Ferrari, finishing second to Alain Prost. This versatile racer, who competed in the 1996 Indianapolis 500, also won the 1982 Nurburgring FIA Sports Car World Championship event driving a Lancia LC1. Alboreto, of Monaco, also contested the 1995 German Touring Car Championship series for Alfa Romeo at Nurburgring as well as the 1981 FIA European Formula 2 series. Alboreto and his Audi R8, posting a third place finish at the recent 24 Hours of Le Mans, will return to Nurburgring competition July 8-9 in the Bitburger / AvD-1000 Km, the fourth race on the 2000 ALMS schedule.

Introduction: There are some racing tracks in the world that are very, very special and the Nurburgring is one of these. I have a lot of good memories from this legendary place, like my victory on the old, long and dangerous circuit in 1982 at the 1000 km with my Lancia Martini sports car and my last victory in F-1 with the Ferrari Turbo on the new circuit in 1985. Going back this year with my Audi R8 will be great, and I will try now to describe to you what is a lap at the ?German temple of motorsport?.
