TheRaceSite.com asked all season long teams, all officials, and a long list of members of the media to vote on the 2004 TheRaceSite.com awards. The results have been tabulated and the final awards have been announced. The award categories included Rising Star Awards in all classes of Grand American Rolex and Grand Am Cup, Crew Chief of the Year Awards in all classes of Grand American Rolex and Grand Am Cup, and Paint Scheme of the Year in Grand American Rolex and Grand Am Cup.
In GT the award went to Pascal Bussy of Orbit Racing. The voting was tight with Bussy just barely taking in more votes than his competitors. The following are the results of the vote: 26% - Orbit Racing 23% - Ferrari of Washington 21% - Team PTG
Interestingly Team PTG had the majority of the success in the Grand Am Rolex GT class. The team took home ten of the twelve races, but the Crew Chief of the Year Award doesn't necessarily go to the team with the most success, but rather to the Crew Chief that utilized the resources available to their team to get the most success out of the vehicle package they had to work with.
Orbit Racing took victory in the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona against a stellar GT class. While the budget that the team had to work with was substantial, it was nothing compared to the budget of Flying Lizard and Team PTG. The Lizard team brought down a Porsche GT3 RS and a Porsche GT3 Cup, both trimmed to the GT rules, to see which one was faster. The Orbit Racing team still prevailed and finished second overall in the twice around the clock enduro.
