Portland Grand Prix Race Date with ALMS Confirmed

June 23rd, 2006/Richmond, Ca. - The Hankook U.S Touring Car Championship proudly announced today that the series will visit Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon on July 22-23 weekend as a support race for the American Le Mans Series.. This will be the series' second race on the famous northwest track after a successful outing with the Champ Car World Series' G.I. Joe's Grand Prix of Portland. But this time around, the Hankook USTCC series race will be in support of the world famous sports car endurance racing series, the American Le Mans Series during the Portland Grand Prix Presented by Les Schwab.

Winner of the previous Hankook USTCC race on the famed Portland International Raceway was Formula Drift star Tyler McQuarrie, behind the wheel of the #88 Opak Racing/Spoon Sports/Turn 3 Acura RSX-R after out-qualifying defending USTCC's driver champion Dave Brown in the #8 K&N Engineering/ Goodsport Racing/ Works Mitsubishi EVO 8 RS. Brown finished second in that race. He was followed by Pete Bovenberg, in the #94 MBO/AutoSourceMotoring.com/PPG Honda Civic to round up the Top 3 finishers of the Konig Wheels Grand Prix of Portland. These three drivers and the rest of the Hankook USTCC field will look to return to the northwest and battle for top steps.

The race weekend begins with two USTCC practice sessions on Friday, July 21. A single qualifying session is set for Saturday, July 22 at 12:50PM. The Seventh Round of the Hankook U.S. Touring Car Championship is set for Sunday, July 23 with 12:00PM start time.
