New Jersey Motorsports Park - SpeedSource welcomed senior personnel from castrol, headquartered in Wayne, New Jersey, as the No. 70 Castrol Syntec Mazda RX-8 GT continued its pursuit of top finishes in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.

"Our partnership with Castrol is a huge component of our program, and our success this year is a direct result of their support," said team owner and driver Sylvain Tremblay.

Nick Ham qualified the No. 70 in the sixth spot, and the No. 69 FXDD Mazda RX-8 GT of Emil Assentato started 8th. The SpeedSource cars ran strong laps in the August 31 race, but for the No. 70 the day proved a tough challenge.

"This facility has a lot of potential," commented Tremblay "The off-track dirt and stones were a challenge for all the teams; we just picked up the one rock that hurt us."

A damaged oil cooler put the championship contender down multiple laps as the team fought to keep the rotary engine cool. In addition, recent rule changes limiting the engine's RPM challenged the team's engineers.

"We continue to learn all the ramifications of the rule changes, and we're battling all the implications of those changes," said Tremblay. "With all of the effort to repair the car during the event, a 16th place finish has kept us only 12 points out of the lead of the championship. Having won championships in 2001, 2004, and 2005, the team knows how to win. We are going to Miller with the focus on us and not what other teams are doing. 2008 has been a fantastic season for the entire Castrol Mazda team. We'll go to Miller with just one more goal to achieve."

The FXDD car focused on a running a clean race and Assentato's strong qualifying effort put the No. 69 up front. Co-driver Jeff Segal finished out the race, bringing the car home unhurt in 11th place.

Car Chief Marty Kintzi commented, "We've seen a lot of damage in recent races, and our strategy today was to stay out of trouble. Both Emil and Jeff did a great job, considering the hazards of the debris from cars going off-track."
SpeedSourcefinishes the 2008 season at Miller Motorsport Park in Utah on September 20.
