It seems like every week there's a new track day group or driving club sprouting up somewhere, but most of them don't feature the coaching and advice of one of the top drivers in North American sports car racing. In case you missed the title, that man is David Murry, and he's bringing David Murry Track Days to Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in October for its inaugural event, with plans to expand significantly in 2010.
Murry is one of the most experienced and well-rounded pro drivers racing in the U.S. today, having driven everything from Porsche prototypes at Le Mans, to GT2 and street stock cars here in the U.S. in everything from Koni Challenge to ALMS. For this season, he's been piloting the Ford GT in the ALMS GT2 class for Robertson Racing. David Murry Track Days will offer an "open track" format with lots of track time, with Murry on hand to provide classroom sessions tailored specifically to the tracks being driven on, as well as provide advice and counsel throughout the day. David MurryTrack Days follows a similar format to the Group52 organization which is "the group" to be in for experienced drivers at Watkins Glen. Group52 was co-founded by Mark Taylor, who will also be the Chief Steward for Murry's events. David Murry Track Days will hold their inaugural and only event of 2009 on October 20-21 at VIR, and plans to expand to Road Atlanta, Sebring, Daytona and Road America, among others, in 2010. For this years VIR event, the cost for both days is $699 and you can register at www.davidmurry.com. Have your driving resume handy.
