MONTEREY, Calif.-With Tuesday's test at Lime Rock Park completed, Automatic Racing is heading west for round nine of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. In addition to entering their BMW M3 and Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in the Grand Sport class, primary sponsor Invisible Glass will also be interacting with fans, offering free samples throughout the weekend.
Invisible Glass is a premium automotive glass cleaner, and it is the top-selling automotive glass cleaner in the United States. Rob Ecklin heads up Stoner Incorporated, the parent company of Invisible Glass. He will be co-driving the No. 99 Automatic Racing BMW M3 with Steve Phillips.
This weekend will mark the first time that Ecklin has raced at Laguna Seca, although he has tested there in the past. "I loved it when I tested there: it's fast but technical, and it's a real roller coaster," Ecklin says. "The team ran the M3 there last year and did well, so I'm feeling good about it. The car is much improved, especially since New Jersey. I think everything is in place, and now it's a matter of executing our plan."
One of the reasons the Automatic Racing M3 is improved is because of the weeks of work that the team has done over the summer, culminating in a test on Tuesday at Lime Rock Park.
"That car is driving really well: it's nicely balanced, nicely powered. It was the first time for that car on that track, and it felt very good. I came away from the test feeling competitive," Ecklin says.
The upcoming race might be Ecklin's first at Laguna Seca, but Kris Wilson has years of experience there. It's the home track for Wilson, who will co-drive the No. 140 Automatic Racing Aston Martin with Tim Fox.
"It's always nice to race at my home track, and after the progress we made during our test at Lime Rock, we're looking forward to a good result for the home crowd," notes Wilson. "Automatic Racing has really improved the Vantage this season, and we expect to end the season on a high note."
To complement the Invisible Glass giveaway, both the M3 and the Aston Martin will have an Invisible Glass livery. Race fans will be able to visit the Invisible Glass Tent on both Saturday and Sunday to get free samples of Invisible Glass.
