Colin Thompson dominates in GT Cup

In GT Cup, Colin Thompson, in the No. 11 Porsche 911 GT Cup started on pole and led flag-to-flag for his first career win in the series. Sloan Urry in the No. 02 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup finished second with Alec Udell driving the No. 17 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup finishing third in class. Thompson picked up three race awards on the day: the Optima Batteries Best Standing Start with 12-positions gained, the VP Racing Fuels Hard Charger Award for gaining 12-race positions and the MOMO GT Cup Turning Point of the Race for moving up 12-positions and winning the class race.

In race 2 for GT Cup cars, Sloan Urry started second but passed pole sitter Thompson for the lead. Following in third was Alec Udell. But on lap 2, Udell was hit from behind and as a result, spun at turn-11 allowing Phill Fogg, Jr. in the No. 18 Porsche 911 GT3 to take third place. Thompson then passed Urry to take first position in class before a full-course caution on lap-3 - caused by cars stranded on course. On the restart Thompson led Urry and Fogg Jr. By lap-7, Alec Udell fought off his earlier spin to move up five positions to reclaim third behind Thompson and Urry. Thompson would claim his second win in a row, with Urry and Udell finishing second and third, respectively. The MOMO GT Cup Turning Point of the race was awarded to Thompson for his second straight win.

GT Cup teams now head to St. Petersburg for Rounds 3 and 4 of the Championship.
