California-based NN Racing will contest two Honda Civic Sis in the SCCA Pro Racing Speed Touring Car Championship this season. Taz Harvey, of Danville, Calif., returns to the series and will again pilot the No. 8 Civic Si. Harvey is the Speed World Challenge's most experienced driver, with 90 starts in his career. Last Year Harvey finished in second place in the Portland round and finished 10th in the Championship point race.
"Last year was a development year for the Honda Civic," said Harvey. "After having trouble sorting out the car early in the year, we made steady progress. In the later part of the season we had good qualifying results and look forward to the new season."
In addition to the No. 8 car, NN Racing has added Mark Mitchell, of Malibu, Calif., to the team in the No. 80 Honda Civic Si, a twin to the No. 8 car.
Mitchell has been a factory driver in production based sports cars for Honda, Nissan and Pontiac and has recently competed in the NASCAR Southwest Tour Series before being signed to the NN Racing team. A former IMSA Rising Star award winner and North American Formula Ford Festival champion, Mitchell has a combination of speed and vast set-up experience.
"We were lucky to join forces with Mark," said Harvey. "He is a savvy, fast driver and knows all the tracks we race on. He will be a great teammate and will help us qualify up front."
Look for Mitchell as a front runner in the Speed World Challenge Touring Car Rookie of the year point race.
