Martinez, CA -- For the second consecutive year, Subaru of America is supporting Sheehan Motor Racing's Subaru WRX entry to compete in the hotly contested U.S. Touring Car Championship (USTCC).
Sheehan Motor Racing had an impressive first year in 2001, racing the newly released Subaru WRX. The team came away with a race win at Sears Point, two pole positions, six podium finishes and an overall 2nd place in the championship, just 15 points shy of the championship title.
With a full year of racing the WRX under their belts, the team is confident in their ability to bring home even more impressive results in 2002. In fact, Gary Sheehan has already taken a victory at Sears Point in the opening round of the USTCC in mid-March. With the car fully sorted, the team will be focusing on getting every bit of speed out of their WRX racecar.
"Last year was a development year for us", said driver Gary Sheehan. "We have learned a lot about how this car likes to be set-up and how it likes to be driven. Subaru's assistance was instrumental in helping us get up to speed last year and we are thrilled to have them back with us for 2002. This is going to be a great year for us."
"Subaru has been participating and winning in rally racing for years", said Mike Whelan, Senior Manager, Product Public Relations for Subaru of America, Inc. "We are excited about competing in the U.S. Touring Car Championship because it will show that Subaru All-Wheel Drive offers performance advantages on the road as well as off the road."
