The No. 41 Orison/Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup started at the back of the field for the EMCO Gears Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic, but Wayne Nonnamaker worked his way to the front to take the SGS victory.
Marc Bunting and Andy Lally finished second in the No. 38 TPC Racing Porsche GT3 Cup, while their teammates Michael Levitas and Jean-Francois Dumoulin were third in the No. 36 Porsche GT3 Cup.
Nonnamaker got the SGS pole during qualifying, but the No. 41 Porsche and the third-quickest car, the No. 36 TPC Racing Porsche, were both too low for the required ride height. Both cars had to start at the back of the field, and the No. 38 TPC Racing Porsche of Bunting and Lally moved to the SGS pole.
The team went from the pole to the lead at the green flag, and stayed out front for the first 40 minutes of the race.
By the half-hour mark, Nonnamaker had already worked his way into second, followed by the No. 47 Michael Baughman Racing Porsche GT3 Cup. Fifteen minutes later, Nonnamaker was in the lead. The No. 38 Porsche held onto second, while the No. 36 entry was close behind in third.
The top three remained the same throughout the remainder of the two hour and 45-minute race, and at one time Nonnamaker had a lead of 2.4 seconds. At the checkered flag, he was less than a second ahead of the No. 38 Porsche. The time between the No. 38 and No. 36 Porsches was just 0.177 seconds at the finish line.
