Last year the DTM and ADAC GT Masters ran for the first time together at the Lausitzring or in other words the Eurospeedway. With motorbikes it had been a tremendous success last year. For 2017 the bikes stayed away but the Lausitzring hosted nearly the same programme like last year. Nearly 70.000 racefans from the Eastern Part of Germany, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic came tot he second edition which produced exellent racing in ADAC GT Masters, DTM and the German F4 Championship.
In the first 22 years old Lucas Auer(who is former F1 driver Gerhard Berger’s cousin) won the race from pole with teammate Robin Wickens in 2d and former GT driver René Rast in 3rd position. For Rast it was a dream come through. In 38 starts Auer won his 3rd DTM race without seriously being threatened during the race. Strategy played an important role and provided Belgian Maxime Martin 4th place.
For the second DTM race Canadian Wickens could not defend his pole and had to be content with 3rd place behind the Audi’s from Jamie Green and Mattias Ekström who pulled himself out of traffic by coming in already in the first lap and drove his own race from 8th position. In the Saturday race he came in the 5th lap but decided to dig down at trick box by coming in at the First Lap. A strategy which clearly paid off. “My team was not sure but I was” Ekström said. The second race went to Jamie Green who had difficulties in qualifying but ran a perfect race. “It really was fun” the Audi driver said. Auer is leading the championship.
The first ADAC GT Masters race at the Lausitzring went tot he Herberth Porsche from Robert Renauer/Sven Müller. They got the lead when the Zakspeed Mercedes AMG GT3 from Stoll/Ludwig was accidentally being hit by Christopher Mies in the Montaplast by Land Motorsport Audi, just coming out of the pits. Stoll/Ludwig still managed to finish second. The second GT race on Sunday was taken by Perez Companc/Mirko Bortolotti. The Schnitzer BMW M6 GT3 from Eng/Collard ran in second for quite long time but dropped out of the order du to tyre problems. The Land Motorsport Audi R8 LMS took second with Mies/Conor De Phillippi at the wheel. Third place went tot he second GRT Grasser Lamborghini Huracan GT3 from Engelhart/Ineichen.
