Manthey Racing clinched it’s 50th win in the popular VLN Endurance championship around the Nordschleife with Frenchman Fred Makowiecki and Lars Kern, an unknown name until last Saturday, but Lars certainly is not as unknown as it looks like. Recently the Porsche works engineer established a new record around the Nordschleife with a standard Porsche 911 GT2 RS and got a present from his employer to compete with Makowiecki in the Manthey works development car. “This was a great honor for me. I admit I was a little bit nervous but it was great to win with this advantage.” For four hours the Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R battled out a terrific dice with the Black Falcon Mercedes AMG GT3 from Hubert Haupt, Erik Johansson and DTM driver Maro Engel. In the closing stages Johansson was impressive around the Nordschleife. He cut the difference with the leading Porsche from 10 tot 3 secs. in the closing stages but unfortunately had to come in for a splash/dash. And that sealed the win for Manthey Racing. The Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS from Stippler/Frijns/Mamerow took 4th and Klaus Bachler/Roman Dumas took 4th with the Falken Porsche 911 GT 3 R. The prestigious VLN title went to Michael Schrey who collected 7 wins during the season for the Bonk Motorsport Team. For Bonk Motorsport it meant their 15th VLN title with BMW. Schrey is the first driver since Dirk Adorf in 1996 and 1997 winning the title for the second year in a row.
